Hike-a-Thon
All Free Haven Students are encouraged to participate in the hike-a-thon taking place March 15th through April 15th, 2025. We encourage your student to set a goal of $100 or higher: Try to get a $10 sponsor per hike for 10 hikes.
Student Prizes
Prizes will be awarded to the students with the most funds raised during the hike-a-thon.
1st place: A free private archery lesson from Bowdoc Archery
2nd place: A mud kitchen
3rd place: A hiking backpack stuffed with goodies
If not developmentally appropriate, 1st place prize winner can trade for the 2nd or 3rd place prize.
Class Prizes
The class with the most funds raised gets a field trip to brookfield zoo!
How Does it Work?
Register for the hike so we know you’re participating! Come to the kick-off event to start your hike goal. Set a personal or family fundraising goal, and work on completing your goal from March-15th through April 15th. Use our hike-a-thon form to keep track of your hikes. For each hike you take, ask a friend or family member to sponsor that hike. Collect funds from your sponsor. Between April 15th-April 22nd, write a check to Free Haven for the total funds you raised. Prizes will be determined based on the completed form and the full check amount. Instead of checks, zelle payments can be sent to rachel@freehavenfs.com. Please make sure hike-a-thon is in the memo. Please submit the full fundraised amount between April 15th-April 22nd, 2025. Winners will be announced the first week of May.
Join the Movement
Your donations helps support the future of Forest Schools across the midwest. In late 2023, we purchased 50 acres and began the second stage of our expansion. We’re about to enter the third phase of our expansion, and we need your help! In this phase, we will be starting construction of our nature center building. This includes adding a pond, and completing a wetland enhancement plan. Both of these are unexpected expenses required by the county that weren’t included in our original building expenses. We need your help to continue to work on our expansion plans! We’re planning to start the building construction in March 2025. If each of our students raises $100 for the hike-a-thon, we will be 30% closer to our fundraising goals.
